Living in a cold climate

One of the things my body will need to get accustomed to when and if we move to another country is the climatic changes. And it is something I really do not look forward to. My body is comfortable in tropical weather. I don’t even like air-conditioning! But when you make a list of pros and cons, the pros of moving really outweigh the cons. It’s not that I’m not patriotic to my own country or anything. I am. But if you knew what was going on here, and then you knew that people were just not bothered to vote for change, which ultimately meant that things would only get worse, then it is very clear common sense to move. For the kids. For their better future.

So, since I’ll have to adjust to colder weather, I’ve been looking around and doing a lot of research on our new home. Where would I stay? What would our new house look like? What kind of outdoor accents could we include to make it more homey? After all, we haven’t had a garden in years! Just imagine! Finally, a garden where the kids can just run out and play! And a backyard for barbeques and maybe even a water feature, a pergola and a sheltered sand pit. What about a tree house? Oh yes, this all can be real when and if we moved.

I was even thinking of installing one of those outdoor fire pits so that when we have evening barbeques in the backyard during winter, we can remain warm and cosy. There’s nothing like having the right atmosphere. Although there are now many electric or gas barbeque pits in Australia, I still prefer the good old flames of a real fire and with an outdoor fire pit, we could easily place a grill on top to give our chicken wings a good old fashion grill. Just like Rob Rainford in License to Grill. Gosh, this talk of barbeques and fires is making me real hungry!

The more I think of it, the more I want to move. As much as I’ll miss my home country, I do look forward to all the new things that a new home will bring us. For one, we’d be closer to family!!! Here, we hardly have any real family. And what about roasting marshmallows outdoors and safe evening walks? Friendly people without hang ups and being walking distance to the beach? Well maintained playgrounds and better schools? Quality family time as opposed to fake people smooching behind you? Oh, yeah. I could definitely see ourselves moving. Plus, people there are serious about doing what’s right, so when it comes to fire pit safety, for example, they’d only allow proper fire pits to enter the country, unlike here where all kinds of faulty gadgets are openly available!

  1. Ha ha..I was once like you. I could sleep with just the fan on. Even on a super hot day.

Now..I’m not so sure. one gets acclimatised after 2 years. But I’m not so sure abt those fireplaces… u need to chop wood or buy wood constantly. It’s a SUPER DRAG!!!! My neighbour keeps sawing wood (with his electric saw) and I have to say..it drives me up the wall with all that noise!!!!!!
