Yesterday in the car after we attended the West Side Story musical (we were lucky enough to be given tickets!) at that horrible Istana Budaya building (and I shall tell you why in another post!), T1 asked me why we had to stand up before the musical to sing Negaraku. Ya!!! We had to!!! It was like school assembly, she said.
Then she asked me if I knew that in all her school exercise books, there was the Udang-Udang.
“Udang-udang?” I asked. Of course, I knew immediately what she meant but decided to play along.
“Yes, udang-udang. Do you know what that is? Negaraku means my country, right? What about udang-udang?”
“Gosh, I didn’t know you had smelly school books! No wonder I feel like fainting every time I open your school bag!”
She was perplexed. So I said, “T1….think hard about what you’re saying.”
It was 1130pm and we were on our way home. In fact, we didn’t even stay for the entire show as little missy was too sleepy and the show was so boring that I didn’t mind leaving early.
After several moments of silence and looks of bewilderment, I asked her, “what is udang?”
“Prawn!”
“And you have udang-udang on your books?”
“Hahahahhahaha…!!!! Undang-Undang!!!” she burst into hysterics then continued her banter about all things silly as usual. Prawns on her exercise book, pizzas on her uniform, buns on her head……they are at this age when these kind of things are so funny. I don’t find them funny at all. Sorry, boring Mommy……
