From my experience, majority of Malaysians don’t like spending on office furniture as opposed to their foreign counterparts. If anything, they’d spend a little more on the executive offices and then stinge even more on employee comfort.
Decision makers need to be more far-sighted when it comes to selecting something as what appears to be as trivial as office furniture because you really see the benefits later. Penny wise, pound foolish; the typical office boss would get his office set up for as cheaply as possible only to spend more a year later because his cheap chair has fallen apart. Moreover, good furniture companies come with extended warranties and even save companies from unecessary medical expenditure.
And then another benefit that is intangible but possibly the most important of all, is the psyche of human resources. When I worked in an office with top class furniture, I felt motivated. I was inspired to work harder, to do my levelled best, because the company took such good care of me.
What percentage of companies today comprise demotivated slackers? With all things being equal, imagine how far a little bit of extra investment would take a business?
