PD Avillion during the rainy season – November

This is a wayyyyyyyyyy back-dated post but one that is nice to have because others can see what the place is like if they have never been. Thus, after sifting through tons of pictures, I have painstakingly downsized 50 photos for your viewing pleasure of the Avillion in PD. I’ve also decided to divide it into different sections so you won’t get tremendously bored…..

My first time at Avillion was in the 90s when I was a young and happening career climbing woman. 5 of us youngsters booked a suite which I think only cost RM600 back in the day and included 2 bedrooms and a HUGE living space and honestly, the entire space could sleep 10 adults easily, what with all the day beds the suite came with! We planned to go back with a bigger group one day but surely, the suite no longer costs the same now which makes it not so worthwhile after all.

Those days, the resort wasn’t renovated yet and had NOTHING for kids. In fact, it had NOTHING. Just 2 restaurants and beautiful rooms. It was meant more for honeymooners. We drank alcohol, played Pictionary and laughed ourselves silly. In fact, my friends threatened to throw me off the balcony (we had the water chalet suite) and I was so drunk that I could have fallen in without their help. There I was, brave enough to sit in pitch darkness on the balcony railing (that was just a bar across) balancing myself in my pink Victoria Secret Pyjamas. I have photos to prove it. *chuckle*….the foolishness of youth.

Fast forward 15 years, my experience at PD Avillion was entirely different. The resort now had a beach! It’s own beach! And this is what we had to pack for 2 adults and 2 kids. 7 bags. When I went last, it was literally my bikini, pyjamas and 2 changes of clothes. I never wore make up then because I was so tanned anyway. But look! I hate to think what our bags to Australia would look like this September…….

We went to PD Avillion with T1’s ex-boyfriend (I say ex because they don’t have much opportunity to see each other anymore being in different schools) and his lovely family. It was an exciting trip for her because she had them as company and well, the holiday was really for her so it was all good. Unfortunately, November isn’t a good month to travel to PD because it rained every single day and the kids only had half hour spurts on the beach, hardly enough to fuel a real beach holiday but thankfully, there were lots of other things at the resort to entertain them. But then again, if kids have their friends, just like adults when in good company, it really didn’t matter where you were or what you did, as long as you went or did it together. Agree?

Our drive to PD was super exciting. T2 slept in her car seat. T1 monkeyed around the entire way, chatting and chatting and chatting……And we got lost. Yeah, we got LOST. How can one get lost driving to PD? Believe me, if you had a 5 year old like T1 chatting in the car, you will be doomed to get lost. I dare you. You’re most welcome to borrow her.

Of course, the moment we arrived, she hit the beach. Look how gloomy it was!

In the evening, T1 made some trains in the sparsely filled playroom. Her boyfriend hadn’t arrived yet at that point.

Then we took the opportunity to model her in the many props that the resort provided for photography backdrops.

The buffalo cart…

T1 with the peacock which started a conversation about male and female peacocks and their differences. I had to google all her questions *faint* What do I know about those feathered birds?! What I learnt was that it is the male peacock which has the beautiful feathers and the peahen or peafowl, looks more boring. What is it with resorts having pet peacocks? They had one in Tanjong Jara and they had one in…..I don’t know, it seems every resort we go, there is Mr Peacock. Must be some feng shui thing….

T1 posing by the pool, she wanted to swim and we said no. It had just rained! We finally had dinner when the boys arrived and then went up to the lounge to have some dessert. And whilst waiting for dessert, they all whipped out their latest gadgets in the form of DSi’s and began their trip to eyesight descent.

After dessert, they continued monkeying around whilst we watched the live band perform. One of them was lying down under the table and the other two, lying down as well. They looked like a bunch of hungover kids. We did not feed them any alcohol, really we didn’t as much as I wanted to. Don’t ask me what they were up to, I haven’t a clue.

Despite the daily rain, I can assure you T1 had a fabulous trip to PD Avillion because she cried buckets when we eventually left after 2 nights. The next time we go though, we will try out The Thistle, a British owned resort which I hear is more value for money, as it is new and has much bigger rooms, amongst other things. People always say, who wants to go to the PD Beach? It”s so dirty! But seriously, because The Avillion has its own beach, it is worth the trip. They have a very decent beach. Not a big beach, but decent nonetheless. Enough for kids to muck around in.

  1. 7 bags to go PD???? Ok… you better start packing ‘light’ for your OZ trip!!!! We have 3 luggages and my hubby was complaining we have way too much stuff… unknown to him, one whole luggage was filled with Uncle Toby’s and other food stuff!! hahahah The total luggage weight when we came back was almost 70kg! Luckily my hubby is a gold member so he gets extra luggage else we sure have to leave stuff behind! Btw, which part of OZ is you are going?
