Yesterday, when the Hubs teased T2 for having such a grumpy frowny look on her face, she pouted, then started crying. He quickly pacified her and told her he was just joking and said she was actually very pretty, and she stopped crying and began smiling her cheeky smile.
Do babies understand? She’s only 7 months old…..do you think they understand? This baby….she’s really ‘manja’. What’s the word in English? She just has to whimper a little and she gets whatever the hell she wants.
Lately, she’s been babbling a lot. She has said MA MEI for Mommy and BUBUBUBUBU for Boob-Boob (which is how we refer to my boobs) and BABABABABA when she’s pretending she’s a sheep. That’s what I’m thinking anyway. Heh.

Yes, babies do understand! Even at 1.5 month old, when hubby and I went for a little break (too much stress for me from certain quarters) and left her to the confinement lady for a night, we came back to a very irritable baby, and the confinement lady said that she had not drunk too much milk which I had expressed out before leaving, throughout the night. And she kind of noticed her mommy and daddy weren’t there, as she kept looking to the door.
Then, when we came home the next day, hubby went into the room and immediately she ‘jumped’ up, and when hubby told her that “mommy and daddy missed you so much” in Mandarin, she gave a little nod and smiled. All this was witnessed by the confinement lady, and she was so shocked cos she said she had never seen such a young baby could respond like that!
Babies learn and understand a lot by observing us. It’s incredible the rate they can learn and absorb things and retain them in their long-term memory.
