Doing the Mommy Test

Whilst driving to Nana’s house today, Tee was about to ask me a question and then changed her mind. I asked her what it was but she said nevermind, she’d ask Daddy that evening as he would know better. HUH?!!!

I urged her to ask me just to prove to her that I can be as good as Daddy, if not better (admittedly, most questions about how things work get directed to Daddy so she thinks Mommy is quite the dumb blond; and really, I do not give a rat’s arse why there is Mercury from a thermometer, why it’s the same name as a planet nor where it comes from). Being the stubborn git that she is, she refused to tell me what her question was.

Then I remembered reading Annie’s blog and told Tee the story about how in order to qualify to be a Mommy, one had to take a Mommy Test. Only very smart people pass the Mommy Test and if you passed, you get to be a Mommy. That’s why a Mommy’s job is so important and difficult. But if you failed, then you get to be a Daddy. Muahahaha…..

Her mind got thinking…..

Then she started, “So let’s say….if someone is born a boy…..” at which I panicked because I thought she was going to ask some biological question which will force my brain to spin a million revolutions per second and then I’d really have to admit that Daddy was indeed the genius in our household.

Luckily she asked if someone was born a boy, could he take the Mommy test and change sex to become a Mommy? I said yes. She was extremely skeptical.

“So girls can become Daddies too?”

And then I remembered how much Tee always complains that she dislikes being a girl and wants to be a boy as boys have it so much easier, so in order not to give her a way out into becoming a boy, I said that once a girl or boy passes the Mommy Test, they become a Mommy and they cannot re-take the test to purposely fail just to become a Daddy. At which point, I started getting confused but she seemed to understand! Needless to say, I quickly changed the subject.
