There is our World, and there is the Other World….

Which Tee is familiar with. *twilight zone orchestra in the background*

Everytime I put Tee down for bed, she will spend a good half hour whispering and playing by herself. Because she whispers, I don’t know what she is saying. It could be defined as the toddler language of pre-sleep. I don’t mind the whispers so much but the moving about and constant shuffling around the duvet and pillows, really pulls the curiousity out of my hair. She does it every single time.

I have to play dead because the moment she sees my eyes opened, she’d bounce up and think it was playtime again!

Why is it so hard winding these creatures down? It’s not like she’s high on sugar and we do stop any chance of loud, boisterous play a couple of hours before bedtime.

Toddlers. They really are one of a kind in their own twilight world.

  1. after a good eight years, i’m still wondering the same thing as you! and most of the time, i’d be the first to fall asleep among the three of us, while sister and brother would still be yakking away!

Hahaha…..thanks for the insight and warning!

  2. Aaah, another post that brings back memories. Both my kids used to do the same.
With my son, it would be when he has a book opened and he will be talking and pretending he understood the story even though he was only 2. I would like with my eyes shut otherwise I would spoil his fun.

With my daughter, sometimes she would touch my eyes with her little fingers when they are shut and talk to the third person (??) about my eyes or my lips. 🙂

Bring back those days, those sweet innocent days when the only problems I had was to see them sick and not know how to help or when they had a fall and you just want them to not feel the pain.

Judy, you talk as though you are an old lady. Purleeze……

Sweet innocent days? You mean they change? *worried*

  3. Hi BP–my little one did that also. At about 5 mins I would calmly go in and quiet her, rest my hand on her back and hold her gently in place.

After a few minutes she would understand to hold still and not roll around. It takes them a few minutes to wind down. What they do is self-stimulate which keeps them awake. If you can clamly and gently stop the self-stimming, they will fall asleep.

It also helps them learn boundaries (smile).

Thank you for the suggestion. I will try it.

  4. Funny I should read this post now. I sent my kids to the bedroom at 8:30pm and turned out their lights. I check on them at 9:30pm and one is on the window grill like a monkey and the other is jollying around with a torchlight. Goodness knows if she was sending messages to aliens in outerspace. AAARRRGGH! I shall spare you what happened next. Is it legal for us to drug them to sleep? Just kidding.

Hahaha….that’s what I did when I was 10. As long as they don’t bother you, let them be la….they will soon learn to suffer the consequences of late nights.

  5. at least Tee whispers to herself..Kylie would climb all over us eventho we play dead and she will pull up my eye lids too!!

    Hahaha…Alamak. *smack head*
