When my good friend brought back some Enid Blyton books for Tee, I must say I was initially curious as to whether Tee could cope with books of 120 pages, but I kept positive and encouraging and told Tee how I used to LOVE Enid Blyton books when I was a kid and how I had read SO MANY Enid Blyton books in my life time and how amazing they were, giving her examples of Mr Pink Whistle, Mr Meddle and Amelia Jane. That got Tee curious and although she initially looked overwhelmed at all those words, SO MANY WORDS!, I told her that once she could read, she could read. It didn’t matter how many words there were.

What really helped also was the fact that the book was divided into different chapters of various stories rather than one continuous story and I showed it to her, that she only needed to read 10-15 pages, not 120 pages, so Tee was receptive to the idea.

Proud to say, Tee has since read 4 chapters of her new Enid Blyton Amelia Jane books without any help. I am truly proud of my little girl because just recently, a friend of mine was telling me about 5 year olds reading Enid Blyton books and I told her that there was no way that Tee could have the attention span for an Enid Blyton book (not the preschool versions) but look at her now! I’ve totally underestimated my girl. She has now progressed from Hansel and Gretel.

It helps of course that it is the correct type of Enid Blyton book as Tee is so curious about this very naughty doll called Amelia Jane as she probably relates it to all the naughty things she does herself!!!
