One thing I’ve learnt in my lifetime very early on is that is there is no such thing as a secret. If you really want something to be a secret, then just don’t tell anyone. And I mean ANYONE. I’ve tried and tested this so many times since I was a teenager up to when I was in my twenties when I told only 1 person in the entire world, sometimes a real secret, sometimes something I just made up (for the sake of the exercise), and almost always, I’d hear back that same secret through another source; which really confirmed to me that that particular person was not capable of keeping a secret. Many people just can’t resist spreading a secret!

However, as much as I don’t trust anyone in keeping a secret, I say with great pride that when I tell you I’d keep a secret from anyone in the whole wide world, I really do. I won’t even tell my husband. Speaking of which, if I could trust one person in this world about keeping a secret, it would be my husband. I trust him implicitly.

Sometimes I tell someone to not tell anyone about something but eventually the person forgets or thinks it so insignificant that they mean no harm. And then my secret spreads……slowly but surely. This pisses me off!

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t have such a treasure chest of secrets that everyone would love to dig into. I am pretty much an open book. It just irks me that people cannot keep secrets. Sometimes I’d just make things up and people will spread it. Why can’t they just LISTEN and RESPECT my wishes that this should be kept between us, and only us?

This is one of two things in my life that I have problems grasping – keeping secrets and jealousy. I don’t understand the concept of jealousy either i.e. I don’t know how to feel jealousy and I don’t understand why people can’t keep secrets, because I can.
