TAG: 8 Random Facts About The Big Pumpkin

Little Cairo’s Mommy gave me some homework to mull over this week and since this is easier homework to do than Shireen’s Disease Tag, I will attempt this first. Mark fairly OK, teachers?!

First, the rules in class:

  • I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.
  • Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
  • People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
  • At the end of your blog, you need to choose people to get tagged and list their names.
  • Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

I apologise if these are facts that I have already revealed somewhere here in this blog but considering that I can’t even remember what I had for lunch today, do forgive me. PLEASE forgive me.

FACT 1 – I am the greatest Mommy in the world to Little Tee

I know most Moms out there think that they are the greatest Moms in the World? Well, I really AM the Greatest. Since I am her ONLY Mom, it is not a difficult task to achieve. All I have to do is keep her from qualifying for the children’s famine relief association, ensure she is clean enough from strange dermatological problems, and offer her a hundred kisses and cuddles a day. Easy, right? Think again.

FACT 2 – Poland is the most interesting place I’ve ever visited

The reason for the trip was to experience the ‘old’ Poland before the new Government took over and changed everything. AND to witness yellow snow. We went in February 1994, the coldest winter, and I had to wear up to 6 layers of clothing. It didn’t matter that I looked like a cross between Heffalump and the Michelin Man. I travelled salt mines hundreds of feet underground, got threatened by Nazi soldiers with their rifles pointed at me, almost got kissed by a drunk old stranger whilst coming out of the gated elevator in the red light district hotel where we stayed, experienced the eerie concentration camps of Auswitch, investigated the movie set and studio of Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List and saw yellow snow! The city was grey. There was no colour. And sadness gloomed on every face that hid behind a grey coat or scarf. Nobody smiled. The people were so poor they only served cabbage at the restaurants. Imagine eating dishes of cabbage cooked in various forms. Suffice to say, we had McDonalds for almost 2 weeks.

FACT 3 – My Favourite teacher at Uni was my French Teacher

Her name was Marion Sadoux and she was everything I wanted to be – beautiful, chic, intelligent and kind. I never missed her classes and passed quite well in the language because she inspired me so much. She used to tell me about her then psychiatrist boyfriend and how psychiatrists were all quite screwed when it came to their own personal lives. It gave me something to think about and well, I’m not surprised. After listening to a whole load of crap all day, how do you think you would feel? From her, I wanted to live in Paris and till today, Paris is still my favourite city in the world. My honeymoon was also spent in Paris – surprise, surprise (thank you to my in-laws who paid for it, muak muak!). I wanted to send Tee to a French school (see how obsessed I am with le Francaise?) but the Hubs said a flat no.

FACT 4 – An amazing friend I’ve had the honour of knowing

Jade Collins is a girl I used to party live with when I was at University. She was a stunningly beautiful Vietnamese girl who had polio and was adopted by a Vietnam War American journalist, whom in 1994 was already 85 years old. Jade studied History of Art, spoke fluent French and Italian, and gave me some of my best laughs ever. She was perpetually on crutches, yet led a normal life walking up stairs, carrying grocery shopping bags (WITH TWO CRUTCHES!!!), did her own cooking and laundry and worked at Dillons, the London bookstore for extra cash. She tortured me with hours of intellectual discourse and caused some of my worse asthma attacks through hysterical laughter. Jade is now pursuing a course in clinical psychology, in order to help those in her position. I love the woman.

OK Part 2 tomorrow. Good Night!

  2. Hi Big Pumpkin, opps, I didn’t realise that Mom of Cairo has tagged you, too! Take it that you are doing part 2 for me, too, then. 🙂

  3. not fair! you picked up french while i scrubbed toilets hahaha! doncha just love tags :p
i cant wait for part 2 *wink*

I had my fair share of scrubbing toilets, OK? When I was at the Outward Bound School, we used to play cards under the blanket with torch light after lights out. So next morning, we got punishment – washing ALL the toilets. Then, I used to work at Burger King in the UK and their toilets were pristine clean. *pat myself on back* PLUS I STILL wash my toilets now at home. But I suppose washing your own toilets are much nicer than washing public ones – YUCK.
