Some men will vilify you when they don’t get their way with you

2 sisters of similar age walked over to tell me that THEIR Dad told THEM…… that my Mom was a prostitute and worked at Ampang Park.

I remember the day clearly with an evening blue sky by the poolside, right outside the ladies changing room. My heart wrenched and I could almost feel my blood squeezing out like the roller machine they used to dry wet swimsuits.

I went home that evening and told my Mom about it.

She laughed and said that as long as your conscience is clear, you never have to worry what others say about you.

Mom and Aunt were the Gabriel Sisters back in the day and were pretty in demand, not so much that they were pretty, but they were so charismatic and fun! They appeared in TV commercials and my Aunt won Model of the year.

Loads of men tried to get dates with them offering all sorts of ‘retirement prizes’ and had they opted, they would be married to the richest families in town. Yet when they would politely decline, some of these sour grapes men would go on to defame them….

Mine started as a teenager. I ditched a popular boy for another, and suffered a huge wrath of ostracisation from my very own ‘friends’ because they wanted to be in the ‘in crowd’ with the popular boy!

One boy offered to drive me and my Mom’s friends out of town but when I told him I was not interested in him, he punished me by spreading rumours in the construction industry where I worked.

An old boss fired me when I would not sleep with him. #gross I mean, who the hell do these men think they are?!?

Anyway…. it is the truth.

And it’s not just men.

There are just people in the world who cannot take it when you do not do things their way, their ego gets hurt so they retaliate.

Keep your conscience clear. The people who believe rumours blindly without clarifying deserve to be out of your life anyway. Unfortunately, there are so many without a backbone who cannot think for themselves and prefer to be included even if it means vilifying another.

But it is the integrity of TRUTH, not popularity, that holds you strong when storms fly at you.

Many will choose the comfort of staying in a crowd over the DISCOMFORT of standing alone with integrity.

As my mom said, walk with your head high and know that your worth isn’t determined by Chinese whispers, bullshit and vengeance rejection.

In a world where people trade character for clout so easily, be the one who doesn’t flinch when LIES are flung.

Know who you are deep down and know that you will always be enough.
