Lessons my Mom taught me – Part 14 of 23
Some friends and family choose to remember only the old versions of you.
Good or bad, they judge after you evolve because they have not grown, whilst you have; yet still expect the old you. And continue to judge the old you…. 
Sometimes, it is easier to pour love onto strangers. Give to strangers when you feel called. There are no attachments and your heart is FREE!!
Such a deep lesson that took me years to understand.
Mom helped a lot of friends and family with her time and money.
But the best experiences she had with helping, for example, was when she walked up to an old stranger who could not afford his medical bill at the hospital…. to pay for his bill.
Or when she would send money to feed the poor through her connections in Jakarta.
There was a time she asked me to send money to underprivileged children in East Malaysia after checking where resources were truly needed.
With friends and family, whenever you give something or do something, they form an IDENTITY of you and might expect it from you again. Predictability.
When you stop giving, oops!
Suddenly, they don’t like you anymore.
If you don’t give them anything, they label you as selfish and stingy because they see your ‘perceived’ wealth and make judgement.
Once, Mom met a girl whose family couldn’t afford extra classes to keep her in school. Quietly, without fanfare, she paid for the girl’s extra classes for the entire few years.
She didn’t tell anyone. Not even me, until much later. Education, she said, is the gift that never stops giving.
This is high level kindness that imprints on my soul.
Another time whilst traveling, she bought the entire basket of goodies even though she did not need any of it and slipped some extra money into the hand of the barefoot seller.
She said, “I can’t save her life but at least I made her smile!”
These days, I give ONLY when my heart calls out to me and often, it is to those who ask for nothing and truly have nothing. And guess what? I stay away now from friends and family. #toomuchdrama
When you are perceived generous, many people come to ask for help. We can help one or two but to help all is just not possible.
I love bravely and I expect nothing back.
