Lessons my Mom taught me – Part 12 of 23

You don’t have to let others know what you know.

One of the greatest contentions between my Mom and I was the fact that she was too kind, and generous to a fault.

When I saw everyone taking advantage of her, it used to drive me bat shit crazy.

She’d made a fair sum of money in the stock market and it seemed she attracted a lot of parasites.

When an uncle would cheat her, for example, I would urge her to confront him. She said no need. Let him.

Can you imagine my young rage furious at people bullying my Mom?

She said, “He doesn’t have to know that I know. God will deal with it.”

Will He?!?

Usually, whenever anyone crossed my path in being unscrupulous, I’d be the first to raise the discrepancies. Yet here was mom telling me to shush.

It was a turning point for me.

I did tell you I trusted her after her loyalty lesson, right?

Perhaps, real power is found in the knowing….. yet choosing silence. Mmmm….

Mom taught me that this is not about letting people ‘get away with it’.

It is to protect our own peace and the knowing that someone who could cheat you, does not deserve any more anything from you.

We should trust that God would keep a better score than we ever could.

Some battles aren’t ours to fight because they are already won in silence.
