I am evolving again.
After the last 3 years of growing another business, I am ready to add another under my flabby wings. One thing I have learnt is that no matter how much people copy you and try to do what you do, at the end of the day, they are not you. No matter how much they try to copy, they are still not going to succeed doing what you do because they aren’t learning it directly from you. Unless you give them direct access to actually learn exactly what you do, then what they attempt to copy is as useful as their level of competence.
I learnt that as one matures, there is no more need to compete. In the last 2 years, I have mellowed and stayed silent whenever credit was given to someone else that belonged to me. Even if I paid for things, or designed ideas to enable results, I no longer needed an acknowledgement. So many other women needed this power so I happily let them have it. Have you ever felt like a woman who needed to be acknowledged? Not me. Maybe once upon a time, yes? Not anymore. I think this comes with the security of knowing.
I don’t even need to post pretty instagram pictures or write beautiful Facebook posts to be judged by the world. I have been judged so much till the immunity reached glass breaking levels with splattered mercury! I was chatting to a friend today whom I don’t talk often to at all due to life and she said I was one of the most misunderstood women. She was spot on. Even my own family don’t know me because they don’t bother spending the time getting to understand me. Everyone who follows what I post forms impressions based on that and I’m just blank in the background. People are that naive.
We are currently in Kota Bharu and the highlight of my stay is making a new friend from Russia. It has been a long time since someone inspired me. My daughter says I need to hangout with 80 year olds, which is what I did! Thankfully, my new Russian friend is slightly younger than me. A strong talented designer at heart, she made me recollect my assets and thoughts. The other friend also asked me some pertinent questions that made me make some big decisions to let go of my constant desire to help people. She is of the opinion that when people really want it, they will be helping themselves. Why don’t I just go enjoy my life? She is so right. When people need me, I will be there. But beyond that, I should no longer be their motivator because it is time for leaders to lead.
This RAT YEAR is going to be a great one. I will be busy crafting my house into a special space for memories. But first, skiing….
