Competing with Experience

Have you known those types where everything is a competition? You know, with their own competencies, with kids, with husbands, with friends, everything is a competition. It is amusing but also annoying. Some people always have to be right. Some always must have the last say. Some cannot lose. Some must always win or at least be one up.

In my almost 50 years of life, I have had my fair share of seriously insecure or big ego people who always needs some of the above. I do not feel any lesser even if I admitted to them that they have won because I do not care. Let me entertain you for a bit since I have some time today waiting for that great big Young Living SALE……

There is this Mom who keeps comparing her kid with my daughter. We however, are not in competition at all. She is always asking about my daughter’s results, what my daughter has been excelling with for ECA and what my daughter’s interests are. I would share in a very low profile manner because I know this woman doesn’t give a damn about me nor my daughter and is just asking to gauge her own daughter’s position. This is absolutely BORING for me so I say things like, “…she’s doing great. Happy at school. Complains sometimes about work. Lazy about moving around preferring to use her brain muscles…” Instead of telling her that actually, my daughter has been a straight A student since Primary 1 and is now sitting for her iGCSEs with not 8 subjects as we did the SPM but 12 subjects after dropping 2 and has received a college scholarship by the way, not by application but was offered. That would be too much for her, she may get a heart attack, so I lie low. I don’t go telling anyone anything about my daughter’s achievements except to her non-physically existent Grandmothers, in silence.

I am not sure what drives her because it isn’t me who asks her to study like a nerd. She looks up to me because she knows my life, she knows her Nana’s life, and she knows what I stand for. She sees me work hard. She sees me in the community serving people. She sees how I blend in with everyone successfully (and sometimes not so successfully). Let’s just be real here. I have haters and I have enemies but they don’t bother me. I know who I am. I suspect it is just naturally that a child follows the example of the mother if the mother has not pissed the child off to some degree – LOL. I cannot help it. I am the way I am and she is the way she is. Do I need to apologise for her excellence? I am sure she has faults too, who doesn’t? But do we really have to compete?

Let’s say one thing about the work front then since I have already waffled so much about kids and competition. No matter how many qualifications and certificates one has, it is nowhere nearly enough as having the hard core experience of life and whatever it is that one is looking at.

People assume so much. I have no energy nor time to anyone who has sub-intelligence to think at a minimum narrow level. I make Statement A, I am hit for Statement A when in actual fact, I am all about Statement B. Know what I mean? For example, I say certificates are rubbish. Real life work experience counts for more. Haters will say, oh she is saying that because she doesn’t have much qualifications when in reality, I have more than them and quite a lot actually. I am not saying this is real, merely giving the first example that I pulled out of my very busy head (which again someone reading this would start a RUMOUR about me because the eyes saw what it saw and heard what it heard – le sigh……)

In life, so many of these little unimportant details cross a woman’s mind which forces me to take deep breathes because I am often shy of how people don’t think enough and then reveal themselves through their actions.

Gotta go! The YL SALE is starting!!!
