Warning : Rock Fish

Last weekend, I was craving for a beautiful steamed fish. Since I am diabetic, my food options are very limited so Little Nemos are one of the better options that I have. After some discussion, we decided to go to a big popular restaurant in Imbi in search of beautiful steamed fish. I’d waited all day for it.

When we got there, there was a wedding. Drats! But still, they had opened a small section for the public so in we went, me hungry for beautiful steamed fish.

Can you imagine my horror when they said they didn’t have any fish to steam on that particular day???!!!!! Unless I wanted the rock fish. What the heck was that?

“Oh, it’s very, very nice. Try it. Lots of people like it…” the typically Chinese waitress recommended in swift Cantonese and fluttering eyelashes.

After much discussion again, we decided to go for it. And then she told us it would be about RM400 for the fish. WHAT?!!! But by then, the Hubs had already agreed to it. I told him to revert the order. A steamed fish that expensive I could live without. Besides, I’d much rather spend that money on ahem….. the new baby shopping?

I quickly went to take a look at the fish in the aquarium and wondered why there were so many of them lying around. They didn’t even LOOK pretty!

Then I saw the price. RM44.00 per 100g. Tell me, is that expensive or is that reasonable? I can’t think of fish prices from the market at the top of my head.

And this is what came out.

It did not even TASTE REMOTELY LIKE STEAMED FISH!!!!! It tasted like soya sauce and felt springy like a dead octogenarian lobster who’d masturbated all it’s life!!!!!!!!!!

Did you think I would have allowed my shopping money to go to an inedible fish? Nuh-uh. I made a huge fuss and canceled the order.

You know, if it had been a beautiful steamed fish that I’d been craving and dreaming off all day, I would have foregone that shopping cash. But for this crap? I’m sorry.

So this weekend, mom is going to take me specially to where there is the best steamed fish in town at this new Chinese restaurant in Solaris. Apparently the siew yoke and char siu’s not too bad either. I can hardly wait.

Yum-yum. Don’t mess with a pregnant lady, I’m telling you…..

  1. man..i hate that when they don’t tell you the prices. it’s always the case with these chinese restaurants.

  2. Rock fish is one of my least favorite fish. the meat is too tough. i like fish meat that’s softer… like tilapia, catfish, red cod, pompano.
