How to STOP being Lazy and Complacent

OMG. That sounds just like me, lazy and complacent…..if my Mom were alive now and saw my home, she would go absolutely ballistic. She would scream at me so loud that the entire building would vibrate. Some window panels might even fall off. Sorry Mom!!! But seriously, life is so much more fun creating magic than cleaning under the couch. Like seriously. But I guess someone has to do it eventually. I just hope I don’t find a bed of cockroaches living off food that T2 left on the floor weeks ago. Yikes!IMG_8151

Why am I lazy and complacent? To be fair, I have been working hard in the last few weeks to the point that I told myself after that last weekend to take a break for an entire month. I can afford to, the money keeps coming in. YET!!! I cannot resist it when I get an enquiry or a plea for help, I just MUST attend to whoever it is; and although I have been giving these enquiries away to my team members, sometimes I feel bad doing that too because I am afraid the person might feel as though I am passing them off to someone else. Like am I too important that I cannot deal with them myself, know what I mean? But heck, I deserve a break. But having a break means cleaning the house!!! ARGHHHHH!!!!! Thus I’d rather work than clean house – LOL!!!

Being lazy and complacent is a very bad habit. If it happens sometimes, that’s OK. You are allowed to be lazy and complacent sometimes. But if you find yourself lazy and complacent for prolonged periods, you’d better give yourselves a hard kick up your arses. Because being lazy and complacent is not going to get you ANYWHERE. And why would you not want to go anywhere??? Have passion in your life!!! Do things!!! There is so much to LOVE about life!!!

So how does one stop being lazy and complacent? If you find yourself being so lazy and complacent, here, let ME kick your arse for you. A lazy and complacent life will deteriorate your health and eventually your mental state of mind. WAKE UP!!! STOP being so fucking lazy and complacent!!! DO SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE!!! Stop spending your days playing with your phone chatting mindlessly to your like-minded friends gossiping about others just because you aren’t getting anywhere in life!!! By doing this, being lazy and complacent, you stab yourself and go dwindling down a downward spiral. You start losing your self-esteem which is why you need to bitch about others in order to make yourself feel better. You have nothing to show for your empty life. But realise that all this is in YOUR HANDS!!! You can make your life meaningful. You can make your life FABULOUS!! Why ever not? Which would you choose?

If you have completely lost your will in life to ever get anywhere, here’s some advice for you:-

1. START SMALL

Set yourself a small goal. It could be to clean your bathroom, tidy up your cupboard or read a book. Do a little bit of it every day until the task gets accomplished. Come on, you can do it!! What’s it going to be? Decide right now. For me, it will be getting my kids uniforms for the next academic year sorted tomorrow together with their socks and shoes and what not. I just want that part of their school life out of the way. And I am going to complete it all tomorrow! My next small task would be to finish reading another book. And my 3rd task is to bring out all the toys and leave it OUTSIDE for the next person to collect. Who is interested? There is a mechanical battery operated toolbox in there, some high quality wooden blocks set, broom, pails and buckets, dolls, Halloween pumpkin pails, an ironing board (with an iron presumably), a Doctor’s medical bag filled with medical tools, etc. Gosh! You name it!! It’s in a huge garbage bag all for your taking!!! I cannot be arsed to sell any of it and don’t really have time to think of who to give it away to either so spare me the thinking and just come and take it away, please.

2. MAKE PROGRESS WITH THE MUST DO

Oh, you know how it is….you procrastinate and procrastinate because it is not urgent. The deadline is only in 3 weeks time to pay a bill, or you can sign in a registration next week before the registration waiver is due, or you put off calling an old friend (because you assume she is always there), or you hold off going to that library that you’ve always wanted to go to yet haven’t, etc. Every week, do ONE thing that you’ve got to do. Or every other day. You set your own pace but please DO IT. Don’t just plan it and dream it. TAKE ACTION!!! Clever to talk but me? Hehehe. OK. This week, I shall follow up on a large book order that I made online, follow up with Advertising of my business (please don’t get excited fellow Izumio team mates, I am not advertising Izumio – I have other businesses), and go through my daughter’s Maths checkpoint test papers that she has done. Writing this is good for me as it is actually forcing me to DO STUFF. Man, I am so lazy and complacent!

3. EXERCISE

Oh dear. Do I need to go there? I fail soberly in this area that it is not funny. Last week I started going to Lake Gardens to walk and it felt FANTASTIC!!! And then my cousins from Australia came to KL and we were out everyday from waking at 7am till coming home at midnight everyday for 5 days and of course, my entire workout plan went to the dumps. They have now just left KL and did I go walking this Monday morning? Absolutely not. I was too exhausted. In fact, after my day, I even needed a nap and all my girls had naps too from 4-6pm!!! We were THAT exhausted!!! I am now wondering if I will be getting back on track. I MUST.

4. STAYING STRONG WHEN YOU FEEL YOURSELF SLIPPING

What I do at times like this is quickly go to Pinterest or Instagram to search for motivational quotes to remind me why I can absolutely not afford to be lazy and complacent. Seriously, what purpose would that serve. I have a duty to family, country, fellow people. I have a duty to MYSELF!!! The world is already bad. Let’s work hard to change the world and make it a better place for our children and everyone else. Just because you don’t have children doesn’t mean you don’t have to work. Just think about the circle of life. When you do good, good follows you back and it gets transferred down to the people around you. My departed Mom must have done a hell of a lot of good because I am reaping all the goodness that she has done for my life. I am always grateful and will pass it on.

Remember that one small move downwards can lead to another step downwards and before you know it, you are only moving down-down-down into that hole of laziness again. Don’t allow it just as you should never allow NEGATIVE thought into your head. Fight it. Even if it means getting off your ass to go get a cup of tea, do it.

The only exclusion clause here would be that if you are seriously tired all the time then you should really get yourself checked out by a Doctor because it could be that you are not depressed and lazy but like me have a health problem. Being tired all the time, I finally brought myself to the Doctor and was diagnosed with heart disease.

I am now doing the best I can with whatever I have got to live my best life. If I can do it, so can you. STOP being so lazy and complacent.

  1. I’m reading this together with my 8yo… Half way through he said:”u better not go down that road.. So lazy !”
Hahahahahah so funny wat goes in the mind of kids

  2. love this post. i allow myself to be lazy once in a while like on those weekends when we don’t have any kenduri to attend or no groceries to shop. I will ask my husband to buy food for the whole day, and I will be on bed flicking phone, reading books. Just cuddle and gomol my kids whenenever they come. Ahaha. But usually before evening, the ‘look’ of my house will eventually make me be a cleaning monster lol.
