T1’s French Tutor

T1 has a French tutor that I pay a lot of money for. She just started this year because she is being ‘home schooled’ this year which really has a strange meaning because everyone (or should I say many Malaysians) has their own definition what homeschooling is and not many are familiar too so let me just say for the record that OUR version of HOMESCHOOLING is allowing T1 this year to do whatever the hell she wants with her life!!!

Of course, we are not so irresponsible to allow her to do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. No, we will pull the stops if she wanted to have a taste of her Nana’s morphine. But generally, she is to take the opportunity to brush up on her weaknesses at school, that is languages. She will have tutors for Bahasa Malaysia, English (weakest by my standards!), French and Mandarin. Yup, 4 languages to be a pro by next year. I expect straight As for all 4 languages. No less. There is no reason why this cannot happen especially since the cost of these home tutors is costing me almost as much as her school fees to International School!!!

For now, I have come to the conclusion that International School is a bargain and the school we send her to? Great value for money. Seriously. I’m paying just under RM10,000 less than her usual school fees, it almost makes me feel, WTF, I might as well just send her to school. But that’s besides the point. There is a very good and real reason why we have chosen to take this year out. It is an experiment for both girls and I believe a good one. And as for financials, so much for T1 supporting our Europe trip as we now have an extra expense in the form of private home tutors to pay for.

Children are expensive!!!

Anyway, let’s see where she is with her languages at the end of the year.

Also, I’m curious to see how the girls develop much, much broader and wider with their repertoire of learnings this year without being spoon fed with information.

It has only been a month and even I am learning.

  1. Hi,

would you be able to recommend a good tutor for English.

I have also been looking at British council english courses for kids, need to research if they are any good.

    Thanks heaps.
