A Church in Yangon

Have you ever seen such a lush bush of bouganvillaes??? They were SO PRETTY!!!

On the evening after our 2 orphanage visit, we went back to the Hotel for a quick shower (by the way, even at the Hotel, we experienced NO WATER, OK??? Our last trip, we experienced no power. This trip, no water. Haha. I wonder what’s in store for us the next trip? So fun!) and headed off to Church. Gosh, I have not been to Church since the wedding of my cousin last year, and prior to that, probably another wedding! I am such a sinner.

Nevertheless, we went following our GrandMaster MAD and thought it would be good for T1 to experience Church as she’s never been to a full service either, what more one in the Myanmar language. There’s nothing like introducing something to someone in its full blown authenticity…….

We visited a neighbourhood Church, near Eileen’s house. If it was a mosque or a temple, we’d have stayed away as there was rioting happening in the country due to the stupid Muslim/Buddhist squabble.

St Jude’s Church…..

.

As it was Palm Sunday, we were given these palm sticks to keep.

.

As the service was in Myanmar language, I understood NOTHING and T1 understood even less, so the both of us just stood, knelt and sat, following what everyone else did. Our GrandMaster also explained why all the Holy Statues were covered in Purple Fabric that day and explained the sequence of events to us. SO INTERESTING!!! It completely renewed my faith and interest to go to Sunday School!!!

I noticed that many women in Church wore a veil, something you don’t see so much in KL and the reason I think is because in Myanmar, there are Israelis living there and because they are more ‘holy’, follow the Church and it’s respective rules closer? I am guessing, of course. But it was nice anyhow, seeing all these women with veils over their heads covering their hair. I almost wanted to get one but then thought what the heck? When would I ever wear it?

I bought myself a Mother Mary statue though, a little one which lit up with disco lights and a jade rosary.

After Church, we went to pick the MAD team up for dinner……whilst waiting, T1 got herself busy drawing on the sand. Never a dull moment for this girl, not even in Church. Bless her.

And for being such a good girl, we brought her for ice-cream at our favourite Yangon ice-cream parlour!
