Being Victims of Society

Some people never move on crutched by the incessant ills that have befallen them. Some struggle in doing so yet some make it their single minded purpose of just being. Being happy. If you looked around you, like REALLY looked, there is always someone who is worst off. In reality, there are actually millions who are worst off, so really, you have nothing to moan about. We all have nothing to moan about. Not about our parents abusing us, not about our father’s raping us, not about our family friend’s raping us, not about our bosses abusing us, not about our parents dying, not about how we always struggle for a better life, whatever. There is always someone who’s had it worst and if that person can go through worst and still smile, then I think anyone is capable of pulling up their socks. It is a matter of strength and wanting to move on. The paralympics is one such example of inspiration. It is hard work but if not, then what? You want results, then work hard!

It is mere common sense, is it not? If you worked hard at school and put in the time to revise, you reap the rewards. If you are lazy, you don’t. RIGHT??? However, working hard isn’t the only ingredient in success. You also have to work smart. No point studying so much for Science when it is Maths you need to study……

Of course, everyone has their own perspectives on what hard work is. Most people think they work really hard but when you compare it to someone else, it becomes only a fraction; but because they don’t know any better, they think they work very hard. Everyone has their own gauge but if you really wanted to see where you stood, put yourself out there on the international field. Then decide where you want to be. But realise, that if you want to be at the top, you’ve got to put in solid bloody hard work. I used to think I worked hard 10 years ago when I worked 16 hour days and weekends as well. I could do that then without kids but now I’m meeting people who work 18 hour days. In any case, it isn’t about the hours one puts in. It is the flame of that burning light within that makes a person want to get out of bed every day because he has a mission to accomplish. If you don’t even know what your mission is, then I’m afraid you’ll be working hard and wasting a lot of time. There is no path map. No clear direction. And you will be moving around in circles aimlessly……working very hard, of course. But with no sight of the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s OK if the light moves, gets dim or switches off altogether. At least you moved forward with an initial light. Otherwise really, you will be moving in circles, stuck where you were when woe befell, feeling all sorry for yourself as though your parents (or the world) owed you more. Some people are victims of society. They don’t want to move on. They think that by having such a tough life, someone would pity them and offer them some attention. Unfortunately, it happens the other way around. When you are unhappy and moody and negative, you actually push people away from you. Even your loved ones. When you’re happy and positive and know how to celebrate life, there is an instant attraction from everywhere!

I had a friend who was given away as a child because her parents divorced and both parents had vices and weren’t interested in taking care of her. Whilst at care, she was abused and whilst she received no love from her care, she sought it by getting attention from friends, boy friends. It is a natural course of events. Growing up as a child, it really sucked. It was tough. She was emotionally damaged never mind the double digits she fucked. YET. There comes a point of realisation in smart people. You can do the same thing and stay in your shit hole or you can move on and create your own happiness. Nobody said it would be easy but you must want it. If your self esteem is so low that you don’t even dare venture there, you should get help or very good friends. This friend decided that she was going to make a life for herself and so she studied hard, got herself a scholarship and propelled her way to success. I only wished I had studied hard too but I had no one to guide me to study hard.

If it is that hot dog stand that you so long to own, then work your way there. If it is life in a monastery, go for it. But you know what? This isn’t even about ambition. It is about KNOWING how to be happy. LEARNING the art of how to be happy. Have you noticed how some people are always not that happy? They’re quiet, they’re broody, they’re depressed, they’re not very nice. Some are nice but still don’t know how to be happy. I wish I could help them.

My childhood friend who always makes me laugh, lost her Dad 2 years ago all of a sudden, and yet she is this wonderfully warm amazing person that never blames anyone for life. I don’t see her very much these days but I love her all the same. All the same when we were passing each other little notes at school giggling away…….

She put this on her facebook page this week which spurred me onto this:

“I visited a little trooper in the hospital today who is battling for his life.

Unlike adults, he doesn’t blame his parents, like some of us are apt to do. He doesn’t wallow in misery or hopelessness. He doesn’t claim to be a victim of society or his unfortunate circumstance. He doesn’t know how to.

Instead with all the innocence and purity of an 8 month old, he smiles at you when you call his name. He gurgles in response when you talk to him. He chuckles and reaches out when you pass him a toy.

He doesn’t complain about the tubes and lines coming out of him. He doesn’t grumble about the bruises left by being pricked He doesn’t moan when doctors and nurses descend upon him.

There is a lesson here for us. I know there is.”

Some people keep saying they are happy yet they keep harping on about life’s misgivings. Can they truly be happy then? I think that when one is truly happy, one becomes selfless and starts spreading the love. So for all this, I will admit that I am not quite that happy. I have every reason to be happy and generally, I am quite happy. But sometimes, certain people just drag me down and it is so tiring but because I love them as I love many, I will look beyond the dragging and be a bigger person. I will have empathy on the weaker and not allow abusive behaviour to infect my soul. I want a clean soul for my children so say what you might about me and my parenting skills, me and my fat, me and my whatever, I thank you.

I don’t know about you but I choose to celebrate life.
