Fat Boy Burgers at Publika

We finally tried Fat Boy Burgers at Publika after all the raving one weekend. We’d seen it a few times and it was always full but finally, we got a seat. It’s a burger bar, very American and full of young kids. College kids. It’s their thing, isn’t it?

The concept is nice in that you get to customise your burger if you so wish. However, the entire family still loved my home made burgers the best and they weren’t being biased.

I loved their cute pendulum lamps though! So cute! Like cows on the ceiling…..

The coke float was mehhhh…….why is it that some places do really good coke floats and some don’t? You would have thought that one couldn’t go wrong with mixing a simple coke and a scoop of Vanilla ice cream yet it comes out tasting different at different places? Either the coke’s too warm or there’s too much ice and the coke is diluted, or there is too much froth etc etc etc. Who knows how to make a great coke float? Ice cream first or coke first? Hands up!

The soup was awesome. Very, very nice. It was a mix of pumpkin something something and I’m not a fan of pumpkins (despite the blog name, heh) but this was really lovely.

I ordered a spice burger but it wasn’t spicy by my standards at all. Maybe spicy by T1’s standards! Nevertheless, I didn’t die of food lust from it. It was OK. That was about it. The chips, just look at those chips……being a helpful patron, I gave the manager some feedback that his chips just looked sad and he offered to change it. But we were already on our way out. I didn’t mind it at all, just wanted to provide some feedback to a new place for them to get better.

Look at the chips! C’mon, tell me you’ve seen and tasted better! Coming from England, I know my chips! Or potato wedges, whatever you call them…..

I would go there again to try out more food and to give them another chance since they are still new but for now, we’re still loyal to The Daily Grind if we need an eat out burger. Or the Hard Rock or TGIF etc. The only special thing about Fat Boy Burgers is that they do pork burgers. I’m not a big fan.

And look at the bill? I’ve just noticed that they charge RM9 for a coke float. High margins there! And RM25 for a make your own burger (which you can see above) – do you think it’s worth it? I don’t.

I guess if you were a more discerning customer, you would realise that Fat Boy Burgers currently cater more toward the younger crowd who probably don’t know any better! Even the sides are not quality sides……it’s like going to Nandos and ordering a kid’s meal. Have you ever tried the kids meal? It’s crap compared to the adult’s meal. The chicken drumsticks are all hard and dry. Same thing with boxed cereal. Have you ever tried the kid’s sized cereal boxes? The ones that come in packs of 6 or 8? They’re crap too compared to the big boxes. I kid you not!

  1. My bf loves it and I have no idea why! I did not like it all. I prefer Daily Grind at Bangsar Village =)

  2. we have been wanting to try out Fat Boy for the longest time. This place is so packed each time we’re in Publika that we always end up eating at the non-halal food court 🙂 btw, i’ve tried your homemade burger recipe and family loves it 🙂

  3. I just stumbled across this post and I totally agree! My hubs and I saw a couple of good reviews and were planning to try this place out. Luckily for me, a few days prior to that, my colleagues and I decided we will try this place out for our department lunch and….boy was I UNIMPRESSED! Firstly the waiter got our orders wrong, but we weren’t fussy so we waved that off…but the food…oh dear me the food. It was far from what the reviews were raving about. Soggy sad fries, some of the patties were dry and you are right, if you’re a college student or anyone who doesn’t know any better, this substandard burger joint is good. For the rest of us, it is just overpriced awful burgers :p
