Eating BAD food

We are working towards a healthier lifestyle because health to us is everything as without health, what is the point of life and money? Agree? However, majority of Malaysians are uneducated when it comes to eating healthy!!!

I have really taken a serious interest now and am starting to be more and more aware about what I put into my body and the body of my kids. Who cares about the Hubs, eh?

The biggest lesson of all I’ve learnt is that if you don’t know what’s in it, don’t eat it. This means eating at home more often than not because seriously, you do not know what goes into everything that you’re eating out there.

Secondly, avoid processed food because it’s just full of preservatives and harmful chemicals! Sure, your aunty could have eaten processed cheese and died at 85 but everyone reacts to various foods differently. And had your aunty not eaten all that processed cheese, she could have lived till a hundred.

Bad Food Number One:
Fishballs. I was told that unless I made it myself or it was made by someone I trusted, do not feed my kids fishballs.

Bad Food Number Two:
Chicken Nuggets. Again, unless I make it myself or it is made by someone trusted, don’t eat chicken nuggets that you buy from the supermarket or those fast food joints. In fact, almost all chicken from Malaysia is bad for you because of the hormones and antibiotics that get injected into the chickens. If you really want to know where your organic chicken is coming from, go visit the farm and get the truth for yourself. Avoid chicken nuggets because they put everything in it, including the nails, eyeballs, bakcside, you name it. You can youtube how chicken nuggets are made or how chickens in Malaysia are farmed. Please, just spend some time to do some research on what you are actually consuming. It is better to eat Australian beef than to eat Malaysian chicken.

One person’s account (a friend who visited a farm herself) is that even when a chicken has a disease, the diseased part of the chicken is cut off but the remaining parts are still chopped and packed for sale in the market or in your polistyrene boxes. Do you know why so many teenage boys are now growing slight breasts? It’s all those chicken that they’ve been eating. They are indirectly consuming growth hormones that get injected into the chickens…….

Bad Food Number Three:
Processed Cheese. Actually processed anything!!! Such as ham, sausages and etc. Most have nitrates in them that are cancer causing. Studies have found that if your child eats 3 hot dogs a week, he is more likely to have leukimia versus a child who has none. Pregnant women who eat food with nitrates (such as bacon, ham, sausages etc) will also increase the risk of their babies getting brain tumours. Of course, this is when you eat it excessively. If you really must eat ham, eat it once a month or better still once every six months. Counteract it with lots and LOTS of vegetables. Also, if you love bacon, then cook your bacon in very slow heat because cooking it in high heat would produce lots of nutrosamines that are harmful to your body. Nitrates together with meat processed in your body forms harmful chemicals but if you have a lot of Vitamin C and anti-oxidants in your body, this reaction is reduced. Go do your research and think before you eat.

Bad Food Number Four:
Processed bread. We have been eating the most famous bread for years. Years!!! I have heard of it being bad before but never paid much attention. I heard it a second time and to make my conscience flow easier, I started buying only Breakthru (recommended by the nutritionist at the hospital) and then now ,the new Multigrain bread. They are quite cheap considering what they offer but actually, they are loaded with preservatives and gelatine which is bad for your gut. If bread lasts for more than 2-3 days, something is wrong. From tomorrow onwards, we will buy Adventis Sprout bread. It may be a bit dry and not so soft but it’s sure a lot healthier and more digestible. Besides, T2 loves it and can eat it plain. It is double the price but heck, for our healthy lives, we’d pay. Besides, we used to buy loafs straight from the bakery that cost a lot more……The Adventist bread was originally baked so it could be good and healthy enough for sick patients in hospital.

This is a list of some of the chemicals in processed food that we should avoid. Man, if I’d known, perhaps I wouldn’t be getting my asthma so easily!

Bad food contributes to bad health.

Amen.

  1. I totally agree that if we do not know whats the ingredient, we should not put it in our mouth! actually home cook is still the best, minus the thought of where the ‘raw’ food coming from :p
