Preventing Child Abduction in Malaysia

In light of the latest child abduction case in Malaysia and those child abduction ATTEMPT cases, also in Malaysia; actually, right here in Kuala Lumpur, I have done some research on the subject because I love my kids, ALL kids, and hope that we can protect them always.

How would you go about preventing your child from getting abducted? Firstly, whether your child is taken illegally by a stranger or a relative or friend, even by one parent (and this is worse because the law may regard it as a custody case), it is child abduction. Worst case scenarios include selling your child to sex brothels abroad (boys and girls included), or harming your child physically so he can go out to the streets to beg for cash and bring it back to the money ‘pimps’. There is a huge child market in Asia that forces innocent children to ‘work’ whether it be physical penetration oR simply just performing and posing for child pornography to be sold. This is sick. Seriously SICK. Unfortunately, it’s true. Rather than act in denial, we should accept the reality and do our utmost best in order to prevent our children from ever facing such a heinous crime.

Coincidentally, just before the day Nayati Moodliar was cruelly abducted in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur,  Malaysia, I had just completed a book called Chasing The Cyclone. Call it a FRIGGING coincidence.

The book had given me real life first hand knowledge written by a parent who had chased the cyclone all around the world in order to find his beloved son. Love knows no bounds and truly, I am grateful to Mr Peter Thomas Senese for writing this book and sharing his story as it educated me on how fast things can happen, how the law can go against you, how children can be transported from country to country SO QUICKLY and how money can be withdrawn from your bank accounts unbeknownst to you, how cruel some people can get, how slander enters into the court of law, how Japan has never returned an abducted child!, and really, how you would always think that it would never happen to you.

Well, WAKE UP.

Because you could be next. Be aware. Get educated. Say a Prayer every night for your children and take Precautions. If you think people will help you when shit happens, think again.

As Mothers, we are always targets. We have large bags, strollers, hand bags, baby, kids, sometimes, we are pregnant. The bad guys target us for a reason, we are easy targets. But this isn’t only about us with our kids, it’s also educating your children and preventing the crime at all costs.

Take a look at the video below. This was in New York. How do you think Kuala Lumpur would fare?

Peter Thomas Senese is an author whose 7 year old son was abducted by his own wife (who obviously married him for a reason), became a chasing parent from America to Macau via several international routes over several months and finally found his son. But not before months of sleepless nights, going bare on his entire life savings (thankfully, he had a good savings nest!) and perpetual high adrenaline rushes when he himself was surrounded by cancer and other family trauma.

After this devastation of events, Mr Senese started the I C.A.R.E. foundation, one that is fully supported by ‘Mr Senese and his team’ who do not accept donations or contributions from anyone yet is committed to conducting research in the area of international parental child abduction. I have had the privilege of being in touch with Mr Senese and can vouch that he is a kind, caring and selfless man who would want the last thing that happened to him to happen to any other parent.

In his work, Mr Senese has helped other chasing parents financially, legally, emotionally and provided investigative support to their cases. His selflessness is inspiring and for that, I really thank him for doing what he is doing. I am sure any parent who has had the misfortune of being a victim would too.

Here are what some parents who have had that help say:

Parent 1:

“Chasing The Cyclone and Peter Thomas Senese have assisted me and my family significantly in protecting my daughters from being parentally abducted to Saudi Arabia, where women like myself have no rights. If my children were abducted there, I would never see them again. Ever. Today, I sleep a little better due to the incredible efforts of Peter Thomas Senese, knowing that Mr. Senese has helped ensure my children’s safety and has helped protect us from Chasing The Cyclone of international child abduction. Along the way, he has never asked for anything.”

Parent 2:

“Mr. Senese has assisted me during legal proceedings I have initiated in order to prevent my at-risk daughter from being abducted to Brazil . . . Chasing The Cyclone as a matter-of-fact guide as to the risk factors that may indciate an abduction and legal steps to take in order to prevent this from happening. Today, my daughter resides, and this is in no small way due to the knowledge gained directly from reading Chasing The Cyclone . . . Mr. Senese’s work and network continue to protect my daughter and other targeted children.”

Parent 3:

“On January 16th, 2012 I received a telephone call from Peter Thomas Senese. He said to me that my son was on an airplane 30,000 feet high over Africa and on his way home to the United States . . . As for Peter Thomas Senese, what can I say about this incredible man who led the efforts on all fronts to rescue my son? He asked for nothing other than for me to help others one day when my child was home, he provided financial support, emotional support, and all the necessary legal support required. I will be forever grateful to Peter Thomas Senese and the I CARE Foundation for the selfless acts and considerable kindness.”

If you are a parent or just someone who wants to get educated on child abduction in a non-boring way, you can purchase the book Chasing the Cyclone on Amazon.  The book, apart from providing hard core facts about child abduction, is a riveting 200+ page thriller that I found hard to put down, hence my sleepless nights. OK, it was one sleepless night, but still…..

I am also pleased to announce that Mr. Senese donates 100% of his e-book royalties to the I C.A.R.E. Foundation, including sales from his previously released thrillers including The Den of the Assassin (a geopolitical post 9-11 espionage thriller) and Cloning Christ (a theological thriller that celebrates faith in God and one another).

In the United States there are support groups like the Missing Kids whenever a child goes missing but what about Malaysia? Malaysia has something called the NUR (National Urgent Response) Alert but I couldn’t find much information on it. Thanks to Malaysian Digest though, it is summarised here. However, I’m with Khairy when I say I cannot vouch for its effectiveness.

Now that Nayati Moodliar is found, I am praying that no other cases of child abduction in Malaysia will surface. Ever. I know I’m probably dreaming but we must have hope. With hope and action, Bersih will one day be a reality too.

Please Parents, keep your kids safe.

  1. On behalf of the I CARE Foundation, I would llike to thank you for writing such an intelligent article about the growing issues of international child abduction. Clearly, in order to combat international child abdution, it is critical that parents become informed of the risk factors and issues at hand. And there is no denying that wonderful parenting writers like yourself hold the key to this education and awareness.

    Again – thank you!

Having known Peter Thomas Senese for nearly two decades, and having worked side by side with him at the I CARE Foundation as the self-funded non-profit organization continues to help parents of abduction, Peter’s understanding of the issues of IPCA ore extraordinary.

I was there when Peter’s child was abducted and was part of the team as he successfully navigated the Hague Convention. From that time, I knew that he would try to make a difference, and there is no question that he, through his dedication to the I CARE Foundation, has done that.

In fact, this is a blog I shared about some of Peter Thomas Senese’s incredible giving: http://newyorkattorneyjoelwalter.blogspot.com/2012/09/author-peter-thomas-senese-makes.html

On behalf of the I CARE Foundation, we thank you for sharing this very important message.
