Valentine’s Day and a broken heart

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

We forgot. What did you guys get up to?

We went out for a Happy Valentine’s FAMILY dinner. Unintentionally. Only because Mommy didn’t feel up to cooking. We went to TWO restaurants before ending up at Chef & Brew. The other two were FULL! Sorry sir, you didn’t make a reservation? We are full. I didn’t realise so many people still celebrated Valentine’s Day! Tsk, tsk……it is telling of the mentality of many people. By the time we sat at out table, Tee was famished.

To our shock and horror, Chef & Brew only had a Valentine’s Day menu available at, I don’t know, some ridiculous price. We usually go to Chef & Brew for it’s posh settings for a reasonably cheap price, complemented with an extensive menu. You can have anything from Japanese sashimi, to sambal prawns and rice (superb!), to cheese on toast, to steaks, to ‘teh’ tarik and roti bakar etc. A good menu, go check it out. They are owned by the Victoria Station family group. The son, if I’m not mistaken.

Anyway……….

Deciding whether or not to walk out as we sure as hell didn’t want to pay Valentine’s prices for Oysters!?! They only had ONE Valentine’s set menu, you see but Tee pretty much decided for us when she exclaimed her seven hundredth “I’m hungggggwy!!”

We ate reluctantly and mid way, the rose lady came to ask the Hubs if he’d like to get me a rose. I immediately shot him a ‘NO’ look.

THEN.

He asked TEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! if she’d like a rose. The little brat’s eyes lit up, she started smiling shyly, then turned towards my frown, when the Hubs asked her again in his loving, hair crawling I love you so much voice. She nodded her head coyly (oh my God, you should have seen my eyeballs swell into beach balls and popped out of their sockets when they rolled over my head!) and she sweetly said, “Yes please, Daddy…..”  I fell flat.

So. Tee got her FIRST Valentine’s rose. At three years old. There’ll me more to come, I’m sure. She chose a pink rose and held onto it like it was a real diamond. Close to her heart.

Dessert in the Valentine’s menu was a strawberry mouse in a perfect heart shape. Tee’s face shone like the full moon when she was told she could have it and when the Hubs unknowingly dug his fork into it to feed her the first piece, she cried out, “You just bwoke my heart, Daddy!!!”

Then she looked confused as to why we were laughing when she was upset. Oh, the joys of having children!
