Moving on to the International Curriculum

After reviewing the text books for the International Curriculum that T1 will be attending next year, the Hubs and I are positive that it is for the better.

Next year, T1 will be doing Year 4 work. It will be a steep learning curve for her because suddenly, she’ll be thrown into the deep end and start studying GEOGRAPHY and HISTORY and a high standard of English. One that she isn’t used to. It was already high before but higher still next year. History will be of Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt. Heck, soon she’ll be more knowledgeable than me! I never did that in my entire life! The Hubs thinks it’s a lot better than learning about Hang Tuah when they cannot even decide if he is Malay or Chinese, plus learning about Malaysian cosmonauts and shoe designers isn’t exactly his cup of tea for a sound education, although in my opinion, EVERYTHING adds to learning, even what Kate Middleton wore yesterday.

There is always something to learn and we will always be learning throughout our entire lives.

The following year, T1 will have to start studying French on top of Mandarin and Bahasa, will learn about the Tudors and the Victorians and have The Snow Goose as Literature. By the time she’s 10, she’ll be reading The Diary of Anne Frank which I read as an adult and then start Shakespeare (OH. MY. GOD.).

Seriously, the International Curriculum is much, much tougher than our local curriculum but possibly more interesting and stimulating. I think it would keep kids more interested in learning. Why can’t our Malaysian curriculum just follow the International curriculum and localise it if necessary? The International Curriculum also makes the students think merely by the way the curriculum has been designed. It is because the Government want to keep the nation dumb, isn’t it? It is completely unfair that the majority of the population do not get the opportunity for a great education.

Let’s activate change!!!
