A whole year and a half ago, T1 read the Geronimo Stilton series because someone had recommended them to us even though T1 was reading the Famous Five then. I allowed her to read it because I didn’t know any better and I was told that the kids learn some general knowledge with it, so whatever…..

What I didn’t like about Geronimo Stilton was that it was American English and being young students, this had a tendency to cloud their foundation for good English and so since then, I made a conscious decision not to get anymore American English books until T1’s English was more solid and she could differentiate an American book versus an English book.

She has since finished the Famous Five Series and Harry Potter and Secret Seven and Roald Dahl that when my cousins from Australia asked me which book they should get for T1 for Christmas, I had to stop and think. Yeah, I haven’t done that in a while……

Uncle Ben suggested Animal Farm and Bang! That was it! Even I haven’t read it yet so they have since gone out to buy Animal Farm by George Orwell for T1 – it cost AUD$32.00 !!! That’s like RM100 for a children’s book!!! Aiyayayaya……

So I have my answer now. She can start reading all the old English classics and then some American classics……she’s so young, does anyone know where she should start? Even Little Women is a bit too old for her, don’t you think?
