Last Friday whilst coming down Jalan Semantan in the rain, the traffic came to a standstill. I was immediately worried that the rally had begun but instead it was a road accident. What’s it with people stopping to look at accidents? As we approached the accident site, I noticed that a man was lying down flat on the road and we were going to pass him directly whilst he had a mildly smashed motorbike beside him and another smashed car on the left of us.

I immediately told the girls to close their eyes. Instinct!!! And of course, T1 immediately perked up to look. Thankfully, she hadn’t seen any blood as I’d driven by in a jiff and who knows what T2 saw and realised. I said a little prayer for the man lying on the road in the rain and wondered when emergency roadside assistance would arrive. 5 minutes later, I realised all my fears of my girls witnessing the accident were lifted because T1 said, “I think I know why the man was lying by the roadside.”

Curious, I asked her why.

“His motorbike broke down and he wanted to rest and since there was nowhere else to rest, he just lied down on the road!” She truly believed it.
