    Meatball spaghetti in mushroom sauce

    Thursday, November 19th, 2009

There are 2 people on the internet whom I always go to for recipes because after trying them once and they tasted real good, it was only natural that I went back. One of them is the lovely Jomel, who I wish would one day open her quaint little cafe because I would be seen [...]

    Cooking Black Pomfret

    Monday, October 12th, 2009

What are the many ways to cook black pomfret apart from cooking sweet and sour fish and plain frying with various condiments??? What about white pomfret? Is it only to be steamed with ginger or teo chew style with salted vegetables and tofu? And the silver pomfret, the most expensive of all???
    Please share your pomfret [...]

    Best Scones Ever

    Sunday, July 19th, 2009

Scones are not easily available in KL – well, good scones that is. The ones that are all buttery and melt in your mouth kind of scones, not the crumbly ones that fall apart at every bite. For the longest time, I’ve been on the hunt for the best scones ever and alas, I’ve finally [...]

The early bird catches the worm

    Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Last Sunday, I woke up super early and allowed the Hubs a lie in. Within 45 minutes, I had prepared a full breakfast for Tee and chopped up the above vegetables for lunch. It was merely 830am.

The vegetables went into a pot to make chicken soup.

This looks really gross but it is actually steamed brinjals……..not [...]

    Baking Shepherd’s Pie

    Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

I had a strong craving for Shepherd’s Pie last week and knew that the only way I was going to be rid of this craving in full force would be to bake my own. Nobody else out there makes it like my family does.
    Ingredients:
    1.5lbs good quality beef
    1 whole onion
    1-2 cups frozen vegetables
    1.5-2lbs potatoes (3 large [...]

    Banana Raisin Baby Muffins

    Friday, June 12th, 2009

A real would be hit with toddlers and preschoolers that is healthy yet yummy. I got this recipe from the net after Tee said she really liked those Marmalade baby muffins of which I tasted and err……I didn’t think it was that hot. So I was determined to show her that Mama could do better. [...]

Cravings for nasi lemak Kampung Baru

    Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

This pregnancy, the Hubs has been very lazy. He hasn’t been out ONCE to satisfy my pregnancy cravings, mostly because I was vomiting so badly at the beginning and then didn’t really have cravings that sent me into murdering zones, and now he just takes for granted that I DO NOT have any cravings.
    I can [...]

    Kids sharing food at school

    Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Tee comes home everyday with interesting food stories to tell. She is very fussy with food and makes demands on what she wants for breakfast and snack every day before bed. If she gets bread and jam, she would moan that she is soooooooo sick of bread and jam.
    Can you believe it?
    The Hubs can’t be [...]

    Malay food addiction

    Thursday, May 7th, 2009

On the way to Tee’s school on the road just behind her school (the main road), there is a little Malay stall which serves the yummiest Malay food that makes the baby in my tummy completely ecstatic. If I can help it, I’ll try not to eat there but honestly, to skip a lunch cooking [...]

    Eating in Cameron Highlands

    Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

After an entire morning of picking up trash, hey, that’s 4 kilometers mind you, of steep uphill struggles, we were famished. Our meals were all packaged up by the resort so we ate there mostly, despite cravings to get out into the town to eat real food.
Breakfast at the resort was good - ample supply [...]

    Bittergourd for diabetes

    Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

I’ve just forced Tee to eat 5 spoonfuls of baby bittergourd (cooked in an omelette), which is known to be even better nutritionally than the big bittergourd. She hated it but she swallowed it. Good girl.
Whenever I eat bittergourd, my blood sugar tends to drop as it has some insulin producing properties. I try to [...]

    Of meals and such…..

    Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

This is what I had for breakfast. Korean strawberries with slow cook oatmeal in milk. Don’t be deceived with the pretty picture. It really tastes like cardboard and it is taking me more than an hour to finish. Now I know why Tee takes a long time to eat sometimes, she must really hate the [...]

    Too tired to cook

    Monday, April 13th, 2009

Whenever I’m too tired to cook, like today, I whipped up a simple and quick lunch that Tee and I both love. The Hubs doesn’t because he has more gourmet taste buds but he isn’t around for lunch.
I fried some sardines with onions and blanched some green vegetables and boiled some rice. Voila! For myself, [...]

    Indian nasi kandar

    Monday, April 13th, 2009

My favourite type of food, especially when cooked to perfection. Tasty and super spicy. Who am I kidding? I like ALL food……as those who know me will testify.

    Home made chocolate cookies

    Saturday, November 15th, 2008

Another boring day…..so I got out the old chocolates from the fridge that we hadn’t eaten and told Tee to cook them. You should have seen her eyes turn on. You know? Like a light switch. On-off-on-off. Bored, off. Cook chocolate, On!
We also melted some marshmallows but I wouldn’t recommend you try that. Very, very [...]

Plucking the tails off bean sprouts (taugeh)

    Thursday, November 13th, 2008

I love bean sprouts and am now wondering if Westerners ever pluck the tails off bean sprouts??? I know most restaurants here don’t do it but we always do it at home. After Tee’s princess party, she was brought back into the real world to do some real work. Your pumpkin’s exploded, honey. Back to [...]

My fabulous dinner at Lafite, Shangri La Kuala Lumpur

    Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

This dinner was not paid by me but ahhhh……how I wish somebody would pay for me to eat good food everyday!! Mind you, Bakuteh at the roadside is good food too…..

This was my starter. Scallops and pasta. I can’t remember the fancy schmancy names of the dishes but I’ll tell you what I know. [...]

    A meal made from love….

    Sunday, September 7th, 2008

That’s what my mother does as she knows no other way, apart from dishing out dosh. Many mothers show their love through cooking. It is quite amazing that I have learnt to show love in other ways. It proves that just because you didn’t get it doesn’t mean you cannot give it. It means that [...]

Liquid Nitrogen and Frozen Avocado Beads

    Saturday, August 30th, 2008

What happens when you have minus 196 degrees Celsius of liquid Nitrogen smoking in a pot? You do NOT touch it. If you do, you can start filling up the form to join the Fingerless Anonymous Society.
What happens when you squirt little droplets of mashed avocado through a plastic bottle into the liquid Nitrogen? Your [...]

What Tee had for lunch today

    Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Haha….I needed a filler post and I needed it fast so this is it. Tee had macaroni with home-cooked chicken stock, potatoes, radish, sun-dried tomatoes, chopped coriander, ham and onions. Oh, and topped with grated cheddar cheese. She walloped it kau-kau!! What did Mommy have? 3 chocolate cubes. *gulp*

The best roast chicken I’ve ever had

    Monday, October 15th, 2007

I’ve had many, many roast chickens in all my life but I must say that after 35 years, I’ve finally tasted the best. Ever. Today. My mother’s roast chicken is pretty good too but since she is Muslim, her cooking loses out sometimes for the lack of oinks.
The Hubs and Tee cooked me the best roast [...]

    Tee’s green party at school

    Friday, October 5th, 2007

Tee and her partners in crime revised the colour green this week and did everything green. They cut up leaves, painted trees, messed with green clay, ate green food (spinach quiche, green grapes, green agar-agar, cucumbers etc) and sang ‘green’ songs. Today, they were all dressed in green and I could have sworn it was [...]

The little patisserie chef at my home

    Friday, October 5th, 2007

Whilst playing with her new PlayDoh set today, Tee served me a little plate of bright pink dollops that resembled mini Hershey kisses. I have no clue how she got it into that shape. Wait….let me ask my Mom’s maid.
Oh…..she used a toy scissors. Hmm…..gotta try it myself later.
“This is Hershey chocolate for you, Mummy.”
    I [...]

My daughter, my future gourmet chef

    Monday, July 30th, 2007

    Helping Mummy marinate a fish……
“I can feel the scales! I dug into the fish’s mouth and opened it’s gills. I poked the fish’s eyes and stroked it’s tail…….”

    Plucking vegetables…..

    Peeling garlic……

    Carving Yellow Watermelon Balls

    Sunday, July 29th, 2007

When Tee was learning the colour yellow at school, they did yellow activities ALL WEEK. Anything to do with the colour yellow, they did it. Even in Mandarin. At the end of the week, they had a yellow party in which Tee had to bring in yellow food. So I got her to prepare her [...]
