Once upon a time, she designed buildings and interiors of corporate offices and on the rare occasion, homes. Now, she cleans poop and is student of a patience management course. From the drawing board as a London Architect to the realities of Motherhood, she has certainly learned many lessons in humility. And then others.....
To succeed in the corporate world, first succeed with your kid as the happy boss. Seriously.
This blog is about Mamapumpkin: A crazy, demented Mom who cares full time, alone, without any help, for an even crazier preschooler AND a baby with a boob addiction problem.
She writes anything that comes out of her head, mostly without thinking first, which almost always gets her into trouble (according to her husband, whom she considers the love of her life.......on a good day).
Her 2 pet monkeys drive her towards challenge after challenge, 24/7. Day after Day.....and by the way, her parents are Muslim, her in-laws Buddhist, she's Catholic and her Hubs, an Atheist. She's thinking her kids should be Hindu, just to complete the rainbow religion cycle.
Gotta love it.
She'd love to hear from you : Mamapumpkin at gmail dot com
This morning whilst I was looking at the concert schedule for Lady Gaga next year, T1 came to spy and immediately caught sight of Lady Gaga’s picture. She immediately started reading over my shoulder and asked when Lady Gaga was coming to the Far East. I told her that she won’t be coming here so she asked why? I told her we were too far. She asked where Lady Gaga lived and I said probably in New York but after checking, I found out that Lady Gaga was BORN in New York but now lives in California. Then T1 asked, why cant Lady Gaga come here?
I told you we are too far!
But we went to New York so she can come here surely!
I didn’t want to go into the details with her why I don’t think Lady Gaga would ever come here but I told here this.
If Lady Gaga ever makes it to Malaysia, I’d be the first to buy you her concert tickets, OK?
OK! When do you think she will be coming?
*bangs head on the floor*
Just so you know, Lady Gaga is performing in New York on March 11th 2011. Tickets can be as high as US820 for good seats but can go down to US100.
Do you know what the most expensive diamond in the world is? Many years ago, I only knew of white diamonds. Then, my mother kept talking about yellow diamonds and pink diamonds. Today, I’ve learned that the most expensive diamond in the world is a blue diamond! Interesting??? I have also learned that there are loose lab made diamonds in my favourite colour – green! Go check them out! I’m usually not one for jewelery but if it’s anything like these eco green diamonds, I am all for it. Actually, I’m really falling in love with it……I wonder why I’m so drawn to the colour green? It happens to be T1′s favourite colour too! Without any influence from me, whatsoever. And my Moms….weird, huh?
How many times have you bought something that didn’t work out? Or subscribed to something that was completely lousy? Or paid for services that you totally regretted? *sigh* Me? Countless times.
Most of the time, I cannot be bothered to go back and make a fuss because I am so busy and because of this, our home is filled with stuff we not only don’t need but stuff that don’t work! Plus, we have wasted so, so, so, SOOOOOOOOO much money in the last 10 years. *sigh*
From this lesson, I have now learnt to do my proper research for big ticket items first, before I spend. I will ask around, read and re-read about the product in several independent locations, and sleep on it. Sometimes for months! Just to make sure I am making the absolute right decision. And this works. If only I’d done this all my life, we won’t have a situation where we would have to declutter the home. *sigh* It is a job that takes forever.
If only they had avenues like Consumer-Rankings.com in the past where people could read reviews about whatever it is they were looking for to make an informed decision, like where to get the best online fax services or even the top dating websites! A lot of money could be save and the risk of not being scammed is further reduced. What about you? Do you make impulse purchases? Or do you do your research first?
But the year isn’t even up yet! Dang! At the beginning of the year, we bought T1 a super cheap pair of school shoes which lasted all of 3 weeks. The moment we washed it, it shrunk and she could no longer fit her big feet into them. A real shame as they were the prettiest white canvas Mary Janes. Off trotted the Hubs into Adidas to get her PROPER white leather sneakers. We bought them slightly larger and she really did look like Ronald McDonald in white. They didn’t have any more feminine looking girls shoes unfortunately. We figured, okay, perhaps if we paid a bit more, the shoes will last?
Nonsense!!!
They have lasted 7 months. Yes, 7 short months. Is that the shoe life of children school shoes these days? We’re talking Adidas here. There are holes everywhere where the upper shoe has detached itself from the rubber sole thus if she stepped into a puddle, her socks would be drenched. I was livid! The Hubs suggested that perhaps it is the way she walked (backwards?) or who knows what she got up to at school. Kick boys? Remove her shoes to use as a pencil eraser? Glide on walls? Who knows indeed!
Now, we’ve got to go on a shoe hunt again. I wish that school wasn’t so strict and allowed the kids more flexibility for shoes. As it stands, the girls shoes have to be absolutely white without any logos or colour. If they become a prefect later on, they can switch these to black leather shoes, again without any logos showing. But what would really be perfect was if they allowed girls shoes to be lighter in weight, yet durable; looking simple but pretty at the same time.
Maybe I should be a school shoe designer! Seriously, if you’re concerned about your child’s feet and what they’re covered and protected with, watch this video to educate yourself on how you should find the right size shoes for your child’s feet. Too big and you’ll have problems. Too small and you’ll still have problems. And problems like pigeon toed feet, flat feet, ingrown toe nails, painful feet, deformed feet etc are seriously problems I can live without!!!
One of the things I’ve always wanted to do was to attend a masquerade ball. Unfortunately, the opportunity never arose and so till today, I have still not had that chance to don some Venetian masks, but oh, I am so dying to do so! I have the dress ready, alright!!! Of course, whether I can still fit into them ball gowns now is another matter altogether.
When I was younger, my good friend Linda, who is a professional dancer, owned this beautiful, BEAUTIFUL mask that was made of angelic white feathers and white sequins with a tint of silver dust and lots of beaded work which was all crystal clear or white. It was GORGEOUS!!! And she had kept it perfectly in a beautiful box. Because she is an artist, she has an entire collection of dance costumes too and needless to say, an entire collection of Venetian Face masks that are all well stored in her dance studio in Ampang. Whenever I need a costume of some sort or some accessories for a costume party, I just have to give her a ring and go there to pick up an outfit of my choice. If you want to rent a costume, let me know. She has an entire room filled with dress up stuff to the nines; perfect for a fantasy photo shoot or simply just to attend a great party.
Speaking of parties….I’m itching to attend one now. Would anyone like to invite me to one??? Preferably one where I can don a masquerade Venetian mask? Just because it’s so mysterious and exotic……don’t you think?
That is exactly what I have been doing but for some reason, the scales do not seem to budge. Today, a really good friend, the Health Freak Mommy, cooked me some lunch and I was SO, SO grateful because honestly, I hardly ever eat lunch everyday as I am just too busy dealing with the baby and the other household demands that eating lunch is the last priority on my mind. But when I do get a free lunch, oh, how I do appreciate and SAVOUR it indeed!!! I have some friends who occasionally cook me lunch and man, I just cannot tell you how grateful I am when that happens. Otherwise, I’m just eating nothing till dinner or on bad days, I’ll have a packet of instant noodles. So I really don’t understand why I cannot lose weight when I am eating so little? Perhaps I need to start looking into www.dietsthatwork.net to see what the problem is and find a solution that would really work!
When we go to Australia, we are probably going to have to drive some distance to the countryside and will need to purchase rv insurance for our transportation. We will go in a group of more than 10 people so I wonder how much it is all going to cost. I hear it is a 2 hour drive out of Perth but the scenery on the way is supposed to be spectacular. I am really excited and I am sure the girls will love the trip to the farm.
In 3 weeks time, we will be going to the country where it is going to be very cold and I am certainly not looking forward to it but of course, my daughters and the Hubs are! Because they are eskimos who love the cold! We will e traveling to the country where T1 will get to milk some cows and collect fresh eggs from the chicken coop and feed some farm animals. Nana has no idea what we’ll be doing but we’ve told her that we’re taking her to the lovely country side where there are lots of flowers. She likes flowers. We’d better make sure we are well equipped and contact those motorhome repairs guys so that we have a super smooth trip as we only have 2 weeks there and although it seems like a long time, after taking away 2 days of traveling time, and then having tons of people to see, we are actually not left with much time to do our own thing.
When I was in architecture school at The Bartlett, we used to build a lot of models ourselves. Not architectural models because if you were a student of the Bartlett, you’d know that we didn’t study about buildings at all but art and ideas instead. So really, we built our ideas. If our idea was about a tooth, we’d build models around the idea of a tooth. If we did a project about Russian spies, we’d be building spy gadgets and James Bond paraphernalia.
One day, I was drilling a triangular shaped piece of sharp metal in the workshop and hadn’t clamped my piece of metal properly. When I drilled timber pieces, I’d always used the clamp but for some reason, I didn’t that day so can you guess what happened? The sharp metal started spinning SO FAST and slit my left hand that was holding it down and blood splashed everywhere!!! God was looking down on me as thankfully, it didn’t slit the critical parts of my veins and I am still here today. And do you know why the metal went out of control? You see, when you hold something down to drill, it is fine if it is not a conducting material, although you should always use a clamp. But because I was drilling metal, it heated up so fast that my left hand lifted as an impulse reaction to heat and whooooosh!!! Lesson to learn? Always use clamps whenever you are drilling something. Seriously.
If I could top off the perfect night I had this evening, it would definitely had been a session at the spa with the girls. Hey, next girly meet up at the spa!!! I would soak my tired aching body in a hot tub, get a head massage, a full body massage, a manicure and a pedicure and another body massage with feet reflexology. And after all that, ensure they closed the lid of the hot tub cover so it remained warm for my spa finale!
