Last year, I was fortunate to be invited by T1’s school to attend one of their programmes with children that were meant to spark the entrepreneurial spirit within all the kids. It was one of the most fantastic experiences! As an employer, I wanted to hire these kids! They were energetic, full of ideas and spirit and could really do well in the world. Some lacked experience, after all they had none, but the school had really moulded them into subjects of confidence.
The kids were divided into teams and had to choose their friends as staff. They then had to vote each other to be the CEO, the CFO, the marketing person and so on. After that, they needed to find an idea to sell, be it a service or a product (something real) and research it, modify and improve upon it and then sell it to an audience – the real investors. Each team would go up on stage with their new product and one by one, the members of the company would present WHY and HOW we should invest in their company. We directed all our tough questions to them and sometimes they had a good answer for it, sometimes they made us crack up and sometimes, they were STUCK! It was fun, but more impressive.
There was some hot shot from one of the investment banks as lead investor together with another hot shot from Ernst and Young. I was an investor but not a hot shot. The kids had raving reviews from everyone. As employers, we so often get disappointed by our adult staff for the lack of motivation, for laziness, for just doing what they feel is within their job scope, for lack of initiatives etc etc etc. Honestly, in all of my working life, I have hardly met anyone with the anything CAN DO attitude (although my British Nanny was one!) and what did she get for that? Rewarded, of course! But she is such a gem and for some reason, most people are just working for the sake of working and they work without pride. It is always tough going trying to motivate people who do not want to move forward, who always wonder what is in it for themselves. But as I was telling one of my staff, had he done all the things I had asked him to instead of sitting on it, he would have had the promotion with lots of perks! He said, “Well, I didn’t know there was going to be a promotion!” Well, HELLO???? I’m not going to tell you that! And you know, sometimes, you should do things without being asked; but of course, ask first if you could do it. Show initiative. Share your ideas. Do the work!
So. I reckon kids at T1’s school have a head start in the employment market. Already, there are successes in the world. Locally and internationally. I’m not saying other schools won’t have successful candidates. I’m just saying T1’s school is extremely pro-active in gearing their kids for success. Who is Mamapumpkin?
Mamapumpkin spent 7 years in London committing crimes to gain her Bartlett BSc in Architecture. She spent 7 years as a Stay At Home Mom raising her children as documented in this Mamapumpkin blog since over 10 years ago and thereafter returned to the Corporate World stronger than ever. Her last job as Country Director of a British Railway Signalling organisation saw her getting ill with an aortal and mitral heart valve regurgitation and early stage cancer. Through her journey from working to not working to working again, she sets out to prove to all women that they can do anything and everything that they set out to do; as long as they have that fire of desire burning within and the drive to work hard. Even better with oodles of love, passion and integrity.
Despite being ill, she has grown a network marketing business from very little knowledge and experience in the otherwise infamously known MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) industry, racing from an income of ZERO to RM 100,000 monthly in merely 2 years. She is a firm believer of the MLM business model but realises the pitfalls too and understands how and why the majority of people would shy away (or zoom far away) from any MLM business.
She is now pondering the title of her new book, From Zero to 100,000 RM monthly in 2 years and has a sequel in the pipeline with the aim of helping real professionals succeed in the World of MLM. Always the giver, Mamapumpkin has supported orphans for over 30 years and has now extended her care to the sick, single mothers, and even struggling families. She believes that with the MLM business model, we can all have a life of our own desires to enable real contribution into the world.
A beautiful life without limits.
Mamapumpkin currently manages the Homeschooling Hub Malaysia on Facebook. She also runs Working Women Malaysia (not THAT kind of Working Women!), Mamapumpkin - Creating A Life of Abundance, and Funky Moms on Facebook to offer REAL support to all women who want career and life success. She is a living testimony that women really can have a lot. Being financially free has enabled her to travel the world anytime anywhere doing anything, and she spends most of her day to day with her children, reading and supporting other women.
