Blazing the pages of a high society magazine

    By bigpumpkin | July 12, 2009

I have always wondered, what inspires a woman to invite the press to witness and document her private function, be it an intimate birthday party for her one year old son or her ladies gathering at the spa. Is it attention she is seeking? Why does she want such attention? Does she want to show off her new hand bag? Does she want to snub an ex? Is she making a statement that she has ‘arrived’? Is it a marketing exercise? Of course, whether people care or not is another matter.

I know that I would never want such attention on me or my private life (yet here I am exposing my life in this blog, what a contradiction…..) so I am really curious as to why some women just love having their photographs being taken over and over again, every month at every function that they attend. Seriously, when you flip through the monthly magazines, you see the same old faces albeit with new clothes and accessories, and you can’t help but wonder.

Is it self-esteem? I met someone recently who just came back for good from 17 years in New York and he said that he had initially tried out living in Los Angeles but he almost went mad. Everyone with the Hollywood influence was a bit psycho and he just had to leave. He lasted 9 months in LA. It gave me a familiar feeling about how I feel about all these women. I’m not one to judge but how screwed on really are their heads?

Just yesterday, one lady whom I assume is an LV fan since she has a few pieces, kept staring at my handbag. Why? It’s not like she’s never seen that LV bag before. Was she trying to identify if it was real or a fake? This is one lady who sucks up to the rich and famous and my God, I stay away from these types like the plague! I hate the fact that people give you brownie points based on who you know, where you come from and how you can be of use to them. Whatever happened to loving you for who you are? I don’t suffer from an inferior complex at all (trust me) but I know of some rich and famous and I see with my own eyes how these critters glue themselves to them for some parasitical pleasure and it freaks me out!

I think they wanna tell everyone that they are loaded. Yes, attention-seeking too. Very sad eh?

Not that I bother to buy the socialite mags but I hv to read something when at the hair saloon right?
You always see the same old faces and after a few reads, you’ll know who clicks with who - birds of feather flock together.
Sweet and smiling they may seem but some has horrible character. We once sat next to a so called lady Datuk at a social event. Always in the limelight for some charity event but she’s rude to the bone. Proud and pompous she is but her facial expression instantly changes like a chameleon in front of cameras !! tskk.. tskk…

o.Oh I totally understand what you are saying. Working in the PR industry under the luxury clients will lead you to all these pretentious people, who talked nothing all day but their latest purchases, holidays and fine dinings and the air of arrogance.. its disgusting!
