The importance of hiring a branding agency

    By bigpumpkin | September 6, 2008

Most people want to perform this exercise themselves. They have a great idea or a great product and they know it will make money. It will sell well. It will be a hit. It is something that is in demand. But to save money and operating costs, they decide they can market it themselves because what is so difficult about marketing and branding, right?

    WRONG.

Experience counts for a lot. A LOT. Sure, ideas and creativity count too, but that’s a given when a company already deals with marketing and/or branding. So you measure their experience. Of course, some companies are more creative than others but you can assess that from their portfolios of previous work. What is also important is their level of service. Talk to their previous clients. Do you really want to be stuck with a branding agency that does not answer your calls at the most urgent instance? What about meeting deadlines? Some companies just don’t keep to deadlines that you give them. The construction companies are famous for this, I know. I’ve been there. But let me tell you, many Malaysian companies in general are also quite poor at keeping deadlines. Or maybe not even deadlines, they are just slow in responding.

So when you hire your next Branding Agency, consider the factors above. But whatever you do, make sure you hire one and not try to do it yourself when branding is not your core business. The pennies spent would bring you back bigger money in the long run. Trust me on that too. I’ve been there.
