Our first taxi ride in New York City

    By bigpumpkin | July 22, 2008

On 5th June 2008, we entered New York City JFK airport, a massive 8 terminal airport with very little facilities, for the second time. The first time, we were just transitting to Orlando. After finding a roundabout way to get to a taxi stand, we had to queue quite a distance for it and that would have been quite alright if we hadn’t had 5 suitcases and a toddler in tow. Furthermore, the trolleys at the airport needed coins and not all of them worked! So rather than hunt for the right trolley rack that worked or find the right coins, we decided to manage the 5 bags and toddler between the two of us with our four hands.

It was such a relief when we got into the cab but it was short lived when he started warning us to hold Tee tight and away from the glass window because kids always liked touching it. He went on and on about it and it started to get annoying because he was being really anal about it. We heard him the first time and it wasn’t like Tee was anywhere near it. Then he told us about his neighbour who got beaten up the night before. Great. Just what a tourist to New York needed to hear. If I had known earlier, I would have recommended to the Hubs that we take the JFK Airport Shuttle into the city. What a lot of hassle that would have saved us.
