Wearing Gold - another Chinese superstition
By bigpumpkin | August 16, 2007
My beloved Mother believes truly that to attract wealth and good fortune, one must wear lots of gold.
This is what the Chinese believe in. Just like how they believe you should have fishes (real or otherwise, even paintings) for abundance of wealth, wear jade to ward off evil spirits and eat chestnuts if you wanted to have a son (Hmmm…..I must remember that one!). As for jade, when you wear it over the years, the green will change. If it becomes darker, you will be bestowed with wealth but if it gets lighter in colour…….err, then you just shrug off a silly superstition and enjoy how the sunshine reflects on it’s lightness.
She also believes in crystals. Real ones. She just gave me a RM500 crystal shell to place into my handbag. As if it wasn’t heavy enough. But it is very beautiful. All shades of brown curled in a spiral. So we shall see in a month’s time if I have won the lottery.
Over the last 2 months, I have started wearing gold. Quite a lot actually since my Mother keeps going on about it, to the point where my arms resemble Christmas Trees. I don’t like it but maybe it’s just a matter of getting used to. It is inconvenient because it gets tangled onto clothes sometimes. It is noisy because it clings onto hard surfaces and has bells nevertheless. It is a sight for sore eyes or maybe my eyes are just not used to seeing it on my own body. It hurts Tee sometimes when I carry her. *sigh* And then for the people who really know me, they ask me what the hell happened?
What’s more? My beloved Mother (whom I truly love, I might add), also passed me a crystal citrine bracelet to wear, only to add more glitter to the already dazzling Christmas Tree. For damn good luck!
I might as well let you know that after a month of inconveniencing myself with gold ornaments, we actually came into some new money. *swoon* Now, I can’t say for sure that it is the gold and the crystals, but I am not about to give it up just yet.
In fact, maybe I should go get myself some jade. After all, my Mother is the one who is wealthier than me.

Haha…I don’t know. Maybe it’s psychological, you know. Like, maybe it’s like The Secret where you subconsciously attract money.

be careful when you are outside the house with all those dangling ornaments on ur hands. i never wear any jewelry, except for the earring, not even the wedding band. don’t want to bring too much attention to myself with those bling bling. world is not as safe as before. and also, very troublesome since i have a small one that i need to tend to all the time, and those blings just get in my way. this is just my opinion.
I know!!! I haven’t worn jewellery for more than 10 years because quite honestly, I can’t be bothered. I only wear something when I go for a function where I think I will stand out not wearing anything. It is unfortunate that the world is the way it is now. I am fairly safe as in I don’t go anywhere alone with Tee apart from school (where they have securirty guards, but still…). I will continue it for awhile, it is really about pleasing my Mother, I think. And boy, do they get in the way!! I am trying very hard to get used to them…and thank you for voicing you opinion. Keep them coming.
