My new COACH bag - First & Last
By bigpumpkin | December 30, 2006
One of the recent Designer outlets in KLCC is the American COACH brand. Usually a loyal fan of Ferragamo & Chanel, I walked into a COACH store, just out of curiousity and liked the casual American style more fitting for mothers than the high powered corporate world of fashion, although they do have a good variety for all. And when was the last time I actually used any of my Designer bags & shoes since becoming a mother? Almost never.
My mom wanted to get me a present so I led her into COACH and showed her what I liked. Between a bum bag and a shoulder sling, I chose the bum bag but my mother insisted on the shoulder sling since she felt it was more practical, nevermind more expensive. So I got the shoulder sling.
I liked the bag very much but I didn’t like the reception one bit. The sales girls were quiet, unfriendly and cold that day. Possibly because I didn’t flash my 1 carat diamond solitaire nor wear my Gucci heels. Instead I was garbed in sloppy MOM gear. I do apologise. I shouldn’t even have stepped into your store.
However, after my mother started showing interest in another bag for herself, and more so when she filled in the title of ‘Datin Seri’ in whatever form they got her to fill, suddenly the ice melted and I felt like puking.
Datin Seri is a title which you can buy off the shelf in Malaysia to gain some respect or make some deals OR you can legally get it conferred to you ‘deservingly’. For example, if you have performed some ‘great’ achievement or ‘good’ deed for the country with ‘great’ and ‘good’ and ‘deserving’ being questionable.
My mother got hers because she brought me into the world (*joke* she got it by default through marrying a Datuk Seri, the male version) and only uses it when circumstances press. Like this, when staff are amazingly snobby and observe you from head to toe. Otherwise, she is terribly embarrassed to be actually associated with a title and I don’t blame her.
Let it be known that I will not be purchasing another COACH bag locally in this lifetime, not only because of the bad reception but COACH bags in Malaysia are made in China. My bag has already been back within that first week for re-stitching because the stitching in one of the pockets was coming apart (that process took a whole month). I don’t use it very often and already another part of stitching is falling apart. Needless to say, I am also discouraging everyone I know to even go near COACH and everyone knows how much influence I have. *wink* My recommendation is really to pay more for something else or go cheap, not in between.
So much for quality. I’d much rather stick to my Ferragamo and Chanel or Nine West and Guess or whatever I find in the market, thank you very much.
