    In the middle of Tatler

    By bigpumpkin | December 3, 2006

Today I found ourselves in the middle of people often seen in the Malaysian Tatler, a magazine of high society. Anyone who’s a who’s who will have had their face plastered on this monthly glossy provided their cash net worth is enough to have the banks begging for their business. Who’s WHO?

In front, we had the Actors Family. This family of 6 have more money than they know what to do with. Being in the entertainment business, they naturally have the most lavish of parties, I assume to showcase their talent for more business. Their parties are always featured in the news because despite being very interesting and opulent, they are ridiculous. For example, having candles lit in a large swimming pool spelling out HAPPY BIRTHDAY ABCD!!! And having a 6 foot birthday cake. Instead of the usual flowers as dining table centre pieces, they have more than 1 meter tall objects. If it’s a party for the child who loves Winnie the Pooh, then each table would have a giant Pooh Bear sitting in the middle.

Describing every money costing detail makes me feel as though I’m throwing cold hard cash into horse diahrea and I am one who hates waste. So I won’t go any further.

    I digress.

The family was dressed in matching outfits. No, not everyone in different shades of blue. Everyone in exactly the same patterned material obviously custom tailored. I wondered……..how many of these family sets of clothing did they really have anyway???

Behind us, was one of our Ministers. Minister as in minister of the Government.

First, the Actor father goes up to say hello to the minister. After some chatter, he heads back to his table to prep up the rest of his kids. He made the 8 year olds walk out to wash their hands. When they returned, he made sure their hands were dry. Then he taught them exactly what to say and directed them to say hello to the minister. After that charade, it was Actor wife’s turn to go up for some brown nosing.

Hmmm…..is this how they became wealthy? Maybe they were already wealthy and continue brown nosing just to maintain the wealth?

T went up to their table curious about the noise and they didn’t smile at her once. Later, she wanted to say hello to their less than 2 year old and they totally ignored her. Wow, that shocked me.

I’ve known some really wealthy people who are so humble and down to Earth. It is almost as though the wealthier they are, the more humble they are. Which reminds me, when I was doing sales before, the best CEOs gave you their time of day while senior/middle management made life difficult for the sake of showing you who’s who.

I’d like to tell all you rude people out there, please get that huge carrot out of your smelly ass because really. It won’t garner you any respect. And everyone deserves a little respect.

OK I admit. I just want you to pass me 1% of your cash. OK?????
